How this tool counts sentences
A sentence ends at a period, exclamation mark, or question mark, followed by a space or the end of the text. It does not split on common abbreviations such as Mr., Mrs., Ms., Dr., St., vs., e.g., i.e., and etc. Decimals such as 3.5 stay one sentence. An ellipsis stays inside the sentence too.
How many sentences are in a paragraph?
Essays often use 3 to 5 sentences in a paragraph. That is a writing convention, not a rule. A speech can use one sentence when you want the line to land, or several when you are explaining a step.
How long should a sentence be?
